When the GPYR held their meeting one time and one time only at the Anheuser-Busch plant in Largo, Florida, there was trouble. According to the newspaper, the greater Pinellas County Young Republicans created a political firestorm. Our meeting took place in Largo; however, the word of our meeting quickly reached California.

The California Hispanic lobby did not like the fact that young Republicans were discussing how state and federal revenue were being used in the state where we the taxpayers lived. So the lobbyist called the elected Florida representatives and the Anheuser-Busch distribution plant in Largo, Florida, where we held our GPYR meeting.

Here is what happened: Anheuser-Busch released a statement to the press, which said, “Anheuser-Busch did not know what topic was going to be discussed at that politic meeting. Anheuser-Busch was never going to let any political group—Republican or Democrat—from using their facility as a meeting room again.”

Elected Florida politicians basically said they the representatives were not racists.

The GPYR gave a statement to the press which stated, “After our discussion at our GPYR meeting, the members took a vote.”

Should illegal aliens in the State of Florida receive state funds and services? The vote was no.

Twenty-one years plus later, we are still having the same discussion—tempus fugit.

Tempus fugit is a Latin phrase translated in English as “time flies.’’12
